The VW Tiguan!
Particularly the R-Line.
Reason why I’m asking is because my mother spotted a white one recently at our local dealer, and has been hinting at wanting one.
It’s at the point where we’re going to test-drive one next Saturday, in fact!
I know that in essence, it’s a last get GTI with 4-motion, and a factory lift kit, but how does oppo feel about them?
Also does the fact that there’s a 75% chance it will be receiving an APR stage 1 tune change that opinion?

They’re nice, but could use a little refresh.

It’t really small like Jeep renegade small.

As far as I understand, you can’t have a 4motion with a manual any way you slice it, and they don’t make a TDI, let alone a TDI 4motion. Soo I’d say I feel disappointed with VW over the Tiguan, even more so than I am with them for the whole “dieselgate” thing. Dieselgate was dumb on their part, the Tiguan is just disappointing. That’s my two cents.
-End mini rant.

yeah, and I think that's good. most of my mom's driving is city. she's just been craving a CUV lately

I just spent three days with a 2016 Subaru Forester. I really liked it. A bit bigger than the VW turangthingingy, probably cheaper too.

the fozzy is another choice (particularly the CVT) I just do not like CVT's though...

heh, as a VW family, that’s an argument we’ll be skipping over :P
This will be the 5th one since 2011

Subaru CVT does not suck that bad. The higher trim packages have the paddles so you can pretend.

I like them. a lot actually. I think if they had been offered with TDI My dad would have one right now instead of the A3

It's a tiny CUV with midsize SUV fuel economy.

Oh we used to be a VW family as well, sort of. Except ours were either old as fuck and powered by a lawnmower engine (1985 Passat 1.6 Diesel Estate) or unreliable as fuck and full of candy apple (1999 Multivan 2.5 TDI remapped with 121hp [insert YEAH BABY.gif here]). There may have been ten years and multiple diesel Citroëns/Fiestas inbetween them but we’re totally a hardcore VW family just like yours.

Well for one thing, it’s definitely not an Allroad.

That’s a good price for a Macan/Q3.
But, I’d still rather Honda or Toyota.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 20:21 |

a maccan is about $30K more than one of these....
and you do realize a maccan and a tiguan don’t compete right?
same for the Q3 and the maccan?
![]() 12/13/2015 at 20:21 |

so does the tiguan, and the VW gives you DSG

we’ve owned at least 2 VW’s since 1988.
Right now we own about 10 VAG products in the family, most of which aren’t that new.
few have ever let us down tbh

it also would work a lot more often than an allroad!

my mom doesn’t drive enough for MPG’s to be too big of a concern, but I do know they’re not that good.
Hopefully a tune makes it better

It would be a No from me.
They just aren’t very good.
Honestly all of the cheaper competition is better. CRV is loads better. The Subaru Forester XT is miles ahead of it.
Its old. And doesnt ride very well. And small. Until it gets a refresh there are better choices

I believe he’s making a comment about their shared platform, but while the Q3 and TiggJuan share a platform, the Macan actually shares its with the Q5.

This thing’s too big to get an R badge while being dragged around by a 2.0. The 2.5T would be more fun.

My neighbor’s wife has had two and she loves them - both white like that one, (though not with the up-spec larger wheels.) It’s kind of a jacked up, but a bit slower GTI.

I really like them. Sorta like the German CX-5 in a way. Just with a lot more power and quirkyness. Fun to drive too.

I have a 2012 and it is really nice. It is small but my family took it on a week long roadtrip through Colorado this summer and it was great. It cruises nice on the freeway and handles pretty well in the mountains. Would love the APR tune and APR intake. Happy shopping.

It’s a smaller and less practical Golf/Jetta wagon with worse performance and fuel economy (when equipped with the same drive train) for a higher price. So, basically, worse in every way. Except one. It offers increased ease of getting in and out for those with worn hips.
